MEDICAL SERVICES AT REMOTE HIMALAYAN VILLAGES/ FUND RAISING FOR SURGERIES OF POOR PATIENTS Dr. Sanon has gone out of his way to visit remote villages trapped in epidemics. Over the past 3 decades he has held numerous free medical camps and rescued hundreds of patients suffering from untreated complications of the commonest diseases to patients with diseases, at stages of their natural history unheard-of in modern day medicine. His timely intervention Almas (May 1983) and Bichhu villages (April 1986 and August 1999) averted at least 250 deaths. He has rendered free medical care at numerous villages along with his wife, Dr. Venu Sanon, and at times with voluntary organizations such as The Inner wheel Club and Uttarakhand Jyot Samiti(NGO). Along with nationally acclaimed cardio thoracic surgeon, Dr. O.P. Yadav and Dr. Usha Yadav (Professor of Ophthalmology at MAMC, New Delhi), Dr. Sanon held free medical aid camps at villages of the Thatyur Development Block, Tehri Garhwal District. These medical camps have helped identify a number of patients in need for cardiac valvuloplasties, organ transplants and pacemaker implantations. Dr. Sanon personally helped in financing and fundraising for 3 cardiac valvuloplasties, 2 renal transplants and a pacemaker implantation. Needless to mention, this has literally given a new life to these patients who could barely afford routine medical care, least to speak of specialized surgeries.
COOLIE CAMP (weekly free medical care camp) Dr. Sunil Sanon holds a free medical camp every week, since 8th December 1996 in order to provide free medical consultancy, laboratory testing and medications to the poor people of Mussoorie and the surrounding villages. Over 6000 patients who could not otherwise afford healthcare have benefited from this free medical service and over 1000 patients of Tuberculosis have been diagnosed and treated. Treating these previously undiagnosed Tubercular patients has prevented the transmission of this disease to at least 10, 000 more people (multiplier effect of 10)! All laboratory testing is being provided free of charge by Dr. Venu Sanon, a consultant pathologist and medication is financed by The Prime Ministers Office (earlier by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation) through the aegis of The Society for Social Services, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration.
